HM-8355 (BL4) is a high-performance blow molding resin, specifically designed for the production of large containers and similar applications. Manufactured using suspension polymerization of ethylene monomer, HM-8355 (BL4) is a bi-modal high-density polyethylene (HDPE), incorporating Butene-1 as a co-monomer. This formulation results in a polymer with exceptional properties, ideal for demanding blow molding processes.
Key Features:
- High Molar Mass: The polymer boasts a high molecular weight, contributing to its superior mechanical properties, such as high stiffness and strength.
- Easy Processability: Despite its high molecular weight, HM-8355 (BL4) remains easy to process in various molding operations.
- High Stiffness: The resin delivers excellent rigidity, making it ideal for structural applications that require durability and strength.
- Good Stress Cracking Resistance: The product is highly resistant to environmental stress cracking, ensuring that it maintains its integrity under challenging conditions.
- Very Good Molding Surface Finish: The material ensures a smooth, uniform finish in the final molded products, providing an aesthetically pleasing result without imperfections.
Main Applications:
- General Purpose for Large Containers: HM-8355 (BL4) is primarily used in applications such as large container production, including bottles, drums, and tanks. Its high strength and impact resistance make it suitable for containing chemicals, liquids, and other demanding materials.
- Blow Molding: The resin’s ability to be molded into complex shapes with excellent detail makes it highly suitable for blow molding processes.
Additives:
- Antioxidant/Process Stabilizer: These additives help preserve the polymer’s properties during processing and prevent degradation over time.
- Lubricant/Acid Scavenger: These are added to improve processing efficiency and reduce the effects of acidic impurities during production.
Typical Data for HM-8355 (BL4):
Resin Properties | Unit | Value | Test Method |
---|---|---|---|
Melt Index (21.6) | gr/10min | 9.5 | ISO 1133 |
Melt Index (5) | g/10min | 0.35 | ISO 1133 |
FRR (21.6/5) | - | 27 | - |
Density | g/cm³ | 0.951 | ISO 1183 |
Swell Ratio | % | 110 | - |
Notched Impact @ 23°C | mJ/mm² | 10 | ISO 179/1 eA |
Explanation of Key Properties:
- Melt Index (21.6): This is a measure of the resin’s flowability at a given temperature and load (21.6 kg). A higher melt index generally means better processability but can reduce strength.
- Melt Index (5): This value, measured under lower load (5 kg), is another indicator of the resin’s flow characteristics, which is important for processing efficiency.
- FRR (Flow Rate Ratio): The ratio of the melt index values at different weights, indicating the polymer’s flow behavior across a range of conditions. A high FRR suggests a material with both high flow and high viscosity, suitable for complex mold shapes.
- Density: A key property indicating the packing density of the polymer. A density of 0.951 g/cm³ places it in the category of HDPE with good balance of strength and stiffness.
- Swell Ratio: The percentage by which the resin swells when it is extruded. This gives an indication of how the resin behaves under molding conditions.
- Notched Impact: The value of the material’s resistance to cracking or breaking when subjected to impact, important for durability.
Product Benefits:
- Durability and Strength: The resin provides a combination of excellent rigidity and impact strength, making it ideal for containers that need to withstand mechanical stress.
- Recyclability: Being an HDPE product, HM-8355 (BL4) is fully recyclable, supporting sustainability efforts by reducing waste.
- Sustainability and Safety: The high resistance to stress cracking extends the product’s lifecycle, reducing the need for replacements and contributing to long-term cost savings.
